The World Series Is a Fucking Garage Sale of a Championship

Baseball's crown jewel is now a fight between two franchises that spent less on their entire rosters than a real team spends on a single star's hemorrhoid pillow, proving the sport is a broken, cheap-ass joke.

The facts

The 2026 World Series began with Game 1 on Friday, featuring the Milwaukee Brewers against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Guardian reported that both teams are among the lowest-spending franchises in Major League Baseball, despite being the top two regular-season teams. The Brewers, with 103 regular-season victories, defeated the 98-win Rays 3-2 in the first game. This matchup is notable because it is the first World Series since 1920 to feature two teams that have never won the championship. The article highlights that the Brewers' payroll ranks 19th in the league at $146 million, while the Rays' payroll is 28th at $96 million. This contrasts with teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have a history of high spending and recent success. The report also touches on the ongoing labor dispute between owners and players, with a potential lockout looming and discussions about implementing a salary cap, which the players' union has opposed.

Our take

So the 2026 World Series is the Milwaukee Brewers versus the Tampa Bay Rays. What the fuck is this, a championship or a contest to see which billionaire owner can scrape the most success from the bottom of a dumpster? This isn't a Fall Classic, it's a Frugal Fuckbowl. The Rays' entire payroll is ninety-six million dollars. That's not a baseball budget, that's the price of a decent yacht for a single Dodgers executive to park his dickhead on. The Brewers, at a princely one hundred forty-six million, are the big spenders in this matchup, which makes them the guy who brought a six-pack of slightly fancier beer to a party where everyone else brought a single warm can of generic piss. And these are the top two teams in the sport? This is the system working? It's a system working exactly as intended for a bunch of greedy, talent-hoarding cunts who'd rather pocket the cash than field a real product.

These dickhead owners have turned competitive balance into a fucking myth you tell children before you sell their favorite player for cash considerations. The Brewers and Rays have never won a title, and now they're the face of the sport because they managed to not completely shit the bed for one season while spending like a middle manager on a tight per diem. This is their reward: a chance to prove that poverty is a viable strategy, so the other cheap bastards can point and say 'See? You don't need to pay anyone!' while they count their revenue-sharing checks.

And now, with a labor war brewing, these same assholes want to talk about a salary cap? Are you fucking kidding me? The league is already capped by the owners' collective cowardice and avarice. They've created a world where the World Series is a contest between the nineteenth and twenty-eighth payrolls, and their solution is to make sure no one can ever spend more than that? They want to institutionalize the very fucking cheapness that makes this year's 'pinnacle event' look like a community theater production of a real sport. It's a scam. The whole thing is a bullshit grift where the fans pay for overpriced tickets and merch to watch a product the owners can't be bothered to fund, all so the pricks in charge can get even richer by doing even less.

This isn't a celebration of baseball. It's a funeral for its competitive soul, presided over by a cabal of greedy bastards who are pissing on the grave. Enjoy your bargain-bin championship, you absolute cunts. May the winner get a trophy made of recycled tin foil and the loser get a firm handshake and a coupon for ten percent off their next fire sale.
