The facts
India's opposition Congress party organized a large rally in Delhi, with leaders claiming up to a million attendees, to protest a voter list revision exercise. The Election Commission of India (ECI) states the exercise aims to remove deceased or relocated voters. However, opposition parties allege it could disenfranchise eligible voters and benefit Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The controversy intensified following a report that the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, made key decisions without the full agreement of other commissioners. Opposition leaders held a symbolic impeachment of Kumar, accusing him of conspiring to steal elections. Rahul Gandhi stated the rally was against the "demolition of Indian democracy." Delhi police approved the event with conditions, deploying thousands of security personnel. The BJP and ECI deny the opposition's allegations.
Our take
Rahul Gandhi and his merry band of professional mourners have finally found the smoking gun that proves Indian democracy is being murdered: a fucking filing cabinet. Yes, the existential threat that required a million sad sacks to gather and wave signs is the Election Commission doing the electoral equivalent of taking out the trash. The opposition’s entire case is that Chief Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar made decisions without getting a signed permission slip from every other commissioner first. Oh, the horror! The tyranny! A bureaucrat acting like a boss instead of a fucking kindergarten teacher seeking consensus on snack time. This is the grand conspiracy to steal elections? Not ballot stuffing, not hacking, but the audacious, dictatorial act of… removing names of people who are six feet under. What a bunch of clowns.
So what’s their brilliant counter-move? A symbolic impeachment. Not a real one, mind you, because that would require actual evidence and not just the sour-grape farts of a party that keeps losing. No, they held a fucking pantomime where they pretended to fire a man for doing the job he was appointed to do. It’s like impeaching a janitor for mopping the floor. Rahul Gandhi stands there, the prince of perpetual grievance, and declares this a fight against the ‘demolition of Indian democracy.’ Bullshit. It’s a fight against basic administrative hygiene. The only thing being demolished is the last shred of his party’s relevance, pulverized by its own leaders' talent for turning routine paperwork into a five-alarm fascist emergency.
Meanwhile, Delhi police had to deploy thousands of officers to babysit this festival of loserdom, all because Congress needed a photo op to prove they still exist. The BJP and the ECI just have to sit back and deny the obvious, which must be exhausting when the allegation is so spectacularly, pants-shittingly stupid. They’re not denying a complex plot; they’re denying that cleaning a list is a crime. The opposition isn’t fighting tyranny; they’re having a tantrum because they think ‘deceased’ is a voting bloc they can still win over. Maybe instead of impeaching commissioners for doing their jobs, they should try winning a fucking election for once. The only conspiracy here is the one where Rahul Gandhi convinces a million people that his own incompetence is actually a secret coup. Absolute dickheads.
