The facts
NASA astronaut Christina Koch is scheduled to attend the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Rams game in Philadelphia on Sunday, Oct. 4. Koch, a self-proclaimed Philadelphia sports fan, will participate in NASA’s Inspiration Tour, an initiative aimed at showcasing America’s strengths in space exploration and aeronautics innovation. Koch is an explorer and engineer with extensive spaceflight experience, having spent a total of 338 days in space across two missions. She served as a mission specialist for the Artemis II mission earlier this year, which involved a lunar flyby. NASA team members will also host an Experience Zone outside the stadium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the game, offering fans opportunities to learn about the Artemis program, engage in interactive activities, and take photos.
Our take
Well, fuck me sideways, NASA has officially run out of ideas. The agency that conquered the vacuum of space has now embraced the intellectual vacuum of NFL tailgate culture. Their big play? Deploying astronaut Christina Koch - a goddamn spacefaring legend who has spent nearly a year off-planet and flown around the fucking moon - to stand in a Philadelphia parking lot so fat drunks in jerseys can 'engage in interactive activities' before they go watch grown men give each other concussions. What inspiring science will she demonstrate? How to shotgun a beer in zero-G? This isn't an 'Inspiration Tour,' it's a humiliation tour cooked up by some pencil-dicked PR ghoul who thinks national pride is measured in stadium selfies. An 'Experience Zone' from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.? That’s the window between when the last hungover fucker stumbles out of his truck and when he needs to go in to secure his overpriced seat. They’ve reduced a master engineer and explorer to a fucking carnival barker. 'Step right up, see a real astronaut! Just ignore the smell of piss and stale beer from the porta-potties!' The sheer, breathtaking audacity of wasting this woman’s time is a special kind of bureaucratic cowardice. These NASA dickheads think showcasing 'America’s strengths in space' means having your top talent nod politely while some asshole in face paint asks if she saw aliens. They’ve traded mission control for a merch table. The vision has shrunk from lunar orbit to the orbit of a fucking parking lot. It’s a perfect metaphor for a nation that’d rather watch football than fund science: we’ve gone from aiming for the stars to aiming for the shitter behind section 127. An absolute disgrace, and a piss-poor use of a national treasure. Eat shit, NASA PR. Your 'MAX POWER' finale in Florida can’t come soon enough, because this is the weakest, most pathetic display of 'power' imaginable. Cunts.
