The facts
Mark Davisson joined Google in December 2019 as a Key Account Executive responsible for leading Google Cloud sales initiatives within the Capital Markets segment of the Financial Services Group. In January 2020, he was assigned to be the Key Account Executive managing the Google Cloud customer account for BlackRock, and while he held that account, BlackRock signed its first multimillion-dollar cloud services contract with Google in December 2021. In January 2022, he was also assigned as the Key Account Executive managing the Google Cloud customer account for Bridgewater Associates, and to manage the U.S. business of Credit Suisse.
From May 2022 to May 2023, Davisson took approved military leave from Google, during which he served at U.S. Army Cyber Command at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Another Google Cloud Key Account Executive within the Financial Services Group, referred to in the complaint as Employee-1, was assigned to manage the BlackRock, Bridgewater Associates, and Credit Suisse accounts while Davisson was on military leave.
Davisson requested reemployment upon his return from military leave in May 2023. He was reinstated with the same pay and title, but Google failed to reassign him as the Key Account Executive responsible for the BlackRock, Bridgewater Associates, and Credit Suisse accounts and instead retained Employee-1 in that role. He was not reassigned to any customer account, and he did not have defined job responsibilities for approximately six months as he searched for a new role within Google.
In January 2024, Google assigned Davisson to a Digital Assets sales team within the Financial Services group, where he still was not given a customer account to manage and was tasked with supporting the individuals who were managing customer accounts. From May 13, 2024, to June 14, 2024, Davisson was on another period of approved military leave. On May 29, 2024, during that leave, Google informed him that he would be terminated as part of a workforce reduction impacting the Digital Assets team, effective August 27, 2024, if he did not find another position within the company. Employee-1 was not subject to that workforce reduction and remains employed at Google, working on Google Cloud sales initiatives within the Financial Services Group, according to the complaint. Davisson applied for approximately ten positions between June 15, 2024, and August 26, 2024, was not offered another position, and was terminated on August 27, 2024.
Davisson filed a claim with the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service of the United States Department of Labor on October 15, 2024. On June 25, 2025, that service completed its investigation and advised Google that it was in violation of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994. The complaint alleges Google violated that law by failing to reemploy Davisson in a position of like status.
Our take
Here’s how Google supports the troops: you go serve at Army Cyber Command, and while you’re gone, some other dickhead named Employee-1 gets your fucking clients. You come back, they hand you your old business cards, point at your empty desk, and say ‘good luck finding work.’ For six months, this cunt wandered the Googleplex with a title and a paycheck, which is the corporate equivalent of being given a beautifully wrapped box containing a single, used napkin. Congrats on your promotion to Vice President of Jack Shit. The job was the accounts. The accounts were the job. Google kept the job and gave him the letters ‘KAE’ like a participation trophy for not dying for his country fast enough to keep his sales quota. That’s not a rehire, you greedy fucks, that’s a semantic prank. It’s like returning from war to find your wife moved her boyfriend into the house, but she’s kept your side of the bed perfectly made with fresh sheets and your name embroidered on the pillow. You can sleep there, honey, it’s still technically your spot! Just ignore the other guy fucking in it. Then, because the first act of bureaucratic cowardice wasn’t enough, they wait until he’s on another round of military leave to tell him his ‘team’ is being eliminated. The guy who actually has his job - Employee-1, the account-thief - is somehow not on that list. So the veteran gets the ‘find a new job or get fucked’ ultimatum while he’s still in uniform, and the prick sitting in his chair gets to keep selling cloud storage to BlackRock. Google’s entire defense is basically ‘we gave him the same title, what’s the problem?’ The problem is you soulless algorithm of a company think a job is a line in a database, not the actual work that line represents. You can’t ‘Don’t be evil’ your way out of this one, you absolute cunts. The Department of Labor already called you out for violating the law. Here’s a free translation from legalese: you treated a soldier’s career like a free sample - take a taste, decide you like the other guy’s flavor better, and throw the wrapper in the veteran’s face on his way out the door. Bravo. Now go update your ‘Veterans at Google’ landing page, you pathetic grifters. Maybe add a section: ‘How to Welcome a Hero: A Step-by-Step Guide to Passive-Aggressive Career Murder.’
