Seven oil tankers carrying an estimated 288,000 tonnes of Russian diesel are en route to the United States. The shipments, tracked by Greenpeace, are the initial phase of a supply deal negotiated between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which lifts years of sanctions on Russian oil. However, there is uncertainty regarding whether the vessels will be permitted to unload due to political opposition and questions about the shipments' legality. Shaun Burnie of Greenpeace Ukraine urged Congress or U.S. authorities to halt the shipments, stating they should not reward Russia for its actions in Ukraine. U.S. lawmakers, including New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, have warned banks and port authorities against handling the diesel, with Sherrill calling the deal "corrupt and illegal." He cut a secret deal with Vladimir Putin, a man whose military is currently using American dollars to buy the bombs that shred Ukrainian children, and now we get the 'prize': 288,000 tonnes of Russian diesel. That's not fuel, that's liquefied blood money. Every gallon that gets pumped into a truck here might as well have a little tag that says 'Paid for by the massacre at Bucha.' And the absolute, pants-on-head stupidity of it all is that Trump's big-brain justification was 'it'll lower prices!' Spoiler alert, you senile prick: diesel prices went up. So we're not even getting the cheap gas we were promised, just the geopolitical shame and the war crimes.
