The facts
During a rally in Michigan, US President Donald Trump referred to Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed as "a jihadist" and invoked the 9/11 attacks. Trump suggested El-Sayed would need to pass through a metal detector to enter the Senate and alleged he was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Trump also claimed that a Democratic victory would lead to "hordes of jihadis" entering the United States. El-Sayed, who is running against Republican Mike Rogers, denied any connection to extremist groups. He stated that Trump's focus on his name and faith was a distraction from issues like the cost of groceries and healthcare access. Senator Bernie Sanders condemned Trump's remarks as Islamophobic, arguing they were used because opponents had nothing to say on real issues. Bishara Bahbah, founder of Arab Americans for Trump, called the statements racist and a violation of a red line. The White House defended Trump's comments, citing El-Sayed's policy positions on taxes, police funding, and vehicle emissions.
Our take
Donald Trump, a man whose entire political brand is built on the rancid, sweaty foundation of fear, has decided the path to victory in Michigan is to stand on a stage and scream about 9/11 and 'jihadists' like a drunk uncle at a barbecue who just discovered Facebook. His target is Abdul El-Sayed, a candidate whose primary crime appears to be having a name that sounds scary to people who think hummus is a terrorist plot. So Trump, the grifter-in-chief, labels him a 'jihadist' and suggests he’d need a metal detector to enter the Senate. What a brave, profound point from the guy who probably thinks 'Allahu Akbar' is a type of kebab. It's the political equivalent of shitting your pants and then demanding everyone else be investigated for the smell. The White House, a nest of sycophantic dickheads, actually tried to defend this sewage by pivoting to El-Sayed's policy positions on taxes. Sure, guys. The president definitely called him a member of the Muslim Brotherhood because of his nuanced stance on vehicle emissions. Fuck off. Bernie Sanders correctly called it Islamophobic bullshit, used because Trump and his gaggle of cowards have fuck-all to say about why people can't afford groceries or see a doctor. Even Bishara Bahbah, founder of 'Arab Americans for Trump' - a group that sounds like a hostage statement - said this crossed a racist red line. When you've lost the guy whose job it is to pretend you're not a racist, you're not just an asshole, you're a catastrophic, vote-starved prick who can't win on ideas, so you peddle terror and bigotry instead. It's pathetic, it's dangerous, and it's the only trick this talentless clown has left in his bag. He's a national embarrassment, spraying verbal diarrhea about hordes of jihadis because his own horde of deplorables gets a hard-on for it. What a fucking disgrace. The only metal detector needed is one to find Trump's missing fucking spine and sense of decency, both of which evaporated decades ago. He's a craven, hate-mongering bastard, and every cheer for this vile performance is a stain on the country. He can go piss up a rope. End of story.
