Sam Altman to Public: You’re the Crash Test Dummies

OpenAI CEO says you should just suck it up when his shit goes wrong, because the benefits are worth the occasional catastrophic fuck‑up.

The facts

OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman told Politico’s Decoded podcast that society should accept some “bad things” – hacks, scams and other misuse – in exchange for AI’s benefits and broad public access. He argued a lighter‑touch regulatory stance, saying he can’t promise zero major hacks or scams but believes the good will far outweigh the bad. The comments came after OpenAI safety lead David Robinson resigned, calling the company’s culture “broken.” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted the idea of tech execs setting acceptable risk levels and noted Florida’s recent request for a judge to require third‑party guardrails on OpenAI models. Gary Marcus of NYU interpreted Altman’s remarks as urging the public to tolerate risk for AI’s upside.

Our take

Sam Altman, the smug prick at the helm of OpenAI, has apparently decided that the rest of us are his fucking beta testers. The CEO’s grand vision is a world where society just tolerates getting hacked, scammed, and misused by his company's products, because hey, the 'benefits' are so cool. It’s the tech‑bro equivalent of a car maker saying you should accept the occasional spontaneous explosion because the cupholders are revolutionary. What an absolute cunt.

This self‑servicing bullshit comes right after a safety expert at his own company quit, calling the place a broken shitshow that isn’t being careful. Altman's response? Double‑down on being a careless dickhead. He isn’t promising there won’t be major hacks or misuse; he’s just saying we should grin at ChatGPT while we change passwords and cancel credit cards.

Even Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, usually busy with his own brand of idiocy, managed to land a punch, noting that maybe this grinning Silicon Valley grifter shouldn’t get to unilaterally decide what level of public harm is acceptable. It takes a special kind of asshole to make DeSantis sound like the voice of reason.

Altman's argument translates to: My company chases profit and hype, you, the public, absorb the risks and clean up the mess. It’s a fucking grift wrapped in utopian jargon. He wants a lighter‑touch regulatory approach because any real rules would get in the way of rolling out half‑baked, dangerous crap and calling it progress. The only thing society should accept is that guys like Altman need a very short, legally‑mandated leash before their vanity project sets your life on fire.

So here’s the deal, Sam. You broke your own company’s culture, your safety people are fleeing, and your products are already doing sketchy shit. Maybe shut the fuck up with your lectures on acceptable casualties until you can make something that doesn’t require the public to sign a waiver. You’re not a visionary; you’re a liability with a podcast.
