Brazil's Presidential Debate: Two Grown Men Call Each Other Baby Names Over Finger Counts and Cop Gangs

In a final, pathetic gasp for votes, Lula and Bolsonaro spent two hours bickering about missing digits, vigilante labels, and who should apologize for what dumb fucking insult, because apparently that's what passes for a policy discussion in Brazil's clown-car election.

The facts

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Sen. Flavio Bolsonaro participated in their second and final televised debate on Friday, October 24, 2026, ahead of the presidential runoff election. The debate, lasting two hours, included several tense exchanges. Bolsonaro used the nickname "nine fingers" to refer to da Silva, alluding to a workplace accident, and later apologized when da Silva demanded it. Da Silva referred to Bolsonaro as a vigilante, in response to Bolsonaro's comments about police-linked groups in Rio communities, which Bolsonaro called narcoterrorists. The candidates also addressed topics such as wages, public security, healthcare, and agribusiness. According to AP, Bolsonaro secured 47% of the vote in the first round compared to da Silva's 45%, with polls indicating a close contest for the runoff.

Our take

Well, here we are. The grand finale of Brazil's presidential shitshow, where the two leading dickheads decided the best way to sway undecided voters was to have a playground slap-fight on national television. Instead of a coherent vision for a country on the brink, the public got two hours of this bullshit: Bolsonaro, that absolute cunt, leading with the stunning intellectual critique of calling his opponent "nine fingers." That's it. That's the big debate opener. A reference to a decades-old workplace accident, because when you're trying to prove you're not a fucking caveman, you start by mocking a guy's missing digit. What's next, Flavio? Gonna call him "four-eyes" if he wears glasses? Challenge him to a game of bloody knuckles? The sheer, galaxy-brained stupidity of it is breathtaking. And of course, Lula, ever the statesman, couldn't just ignore the petty prick. No, he had to stop the whole show and demand an apology for the finger thing, which Bolsonaro, in a moment of peak cowardice, actually gave. So let's recap: precious debate time was burned so one candidate could make a kindergarten taunt and the other could force a take-back. This is the leadership Brazil gets to choose from. A pair of fragile, vain bastards more concerned with schoolyard reputations than, say, the fact that Bolsonaro wants to officially label community groups as "narcoterrorists," which is just a fancy, fascist-adjacent word for declaring open season. Lula's retort of calling him a "vigilante" is the political equivalent of saying I know you are, but what am I? while the country burns. They bickered about wages and healthcare in between these moments of profound childishness, but let's be real: the lasting image is two old men reduced to arguing about who called whom a worse name. It's a perfect metaphor for this entire rancid race. Two narcissistic assholes, one who won 47% of the vote and the other 45%, are in a dead heat because the Brazilian electorate is apparently forced to pick between a guy who leads with finger jokes and a guy who gets legitimately upset about them. What a proud moment for democracy. What a pair of useless pricks.
