Cornell's Rape-Friendly Math Problem

USA Today analyzed seven years of Cornell’s Title IX data: 1,200 reports, 51 guilty findings, 7 expulsions. And in the 2024 gang-rape case, some fraternity members got essay assignments.

The facts

From 2018 to 2024, Cornell’s Title IX office received 1,200 reports of sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. Cornell filed disciplinary charges in 162 cases, finding 51 at fault. Most received minor sanctions; 14 cases resulted in suspensions, and 7 in expulsion or dismissal. Cornell averaged 29,000 enrolled students, suspending just two students or employees for sexual violence per year, and expelling or dismissing one per year. In 2024, a lawsuit accused Cornell of failing to protect a student alleging gang-rape by seven fraternity members; two were expelled, and others wrote essays as punishment. Nearly 1 in 6 Cornell students reported unwanted sexual contact or penetration since enrolling. In the few cases where Cornell found the alleged perpetrator at fault, it suspended or expelled the accused person only 41% of the time, compared to 59% at 26 other New York colleges.

Our take

Read those numbers again, slowly, because they're the entire f------ story. Twelve hundred reports. One hundred sixty-two charges. Fifty-one guilty. Seven expulsions. Cornell's 'process' finds somebody at fault and then lets them stay on campus more often than not. The gang-rape case is the perfect symbol: seven fraternity members allegedly drugged and gang-raped a woman, and Cornell kicked out two of them while letting the others write an essay instead of serving actual time. What a load of horseshit. Cornell is a haven for rapists. Alexandra Brodsky nailed it: 'There's a public narrative that schools have been expelling men left and right...nothing could be further from the truth.' So here's Cornell's business plan: find 51 people guilty, expel seven, and hand out essay prompts like participation trophies. It's not education, it's pimping out protection for predators. They should change the name to 'Cornell University: Where Rapists Come to Play'. Their new slogan? 'We'll take your report...and ignore it.' F------ hell, what a dumpster fire of accountability. Cornell's got a rape-friendly culture and they can't even pretend otherwise. Who needs safety when you've got essays for rapists? The final tally? One f------ disaster of a university that's single-handedly keeping the fraternity bro code alive and well. Absolute cunt move by Cornell admin. Shame on you, @RebeccaValli, you're a clown. Get f------, Cornell. You're trash. Piss on your 'excellence'. You suck. Period. And if Nicole Bedera is right that there's an 'erosion of trust,' that's putting it mildly - there's a goddamn epidemic of negligence.
