The facts
On October 14, 2026, the Environmental Protection Agency published an interim final rule (FR Doc 2026-20982) that moves the reporting-year-2025 greenhouse gas reporting deadline from October 30, 2026, to March 10, 2027. The rule's ACTION line reads "Interim final rule; request for comment." The rule is effective immediately upon publication, and the EPA issued it without prior notice or opportunity for public comment, finding that notice would be "impracticable and contrary to the public interest".
The agency's own explanation admits its reporting system was not ready. The EPA's electronic Greenhouse Gas Reporting Tool, e-GGRT, is the system roughly 8,200 facilities, suppliers, and CO2 injection sites use to file, and the rule states "there is not adequate time for the EPA to have the electronic reporting tool prepared in time for the October 30, 2026, reporting year 2025 deadline".
Public comments are still invited, the EPA is "requesting comments on all aspects of this interim final rule", with comments due November 30, 2026, after the rule is already in effect. The rule is signed by Administrator Lee Zeldin and states "The annual GHG report for reporting year 2025 must be submitted no later than March 10, 2027."
This is the second delay. On February 27, 2026, the EPA issued a final rule that had already extended the deadline from March 31, 2026, to October 30, 2026. Before that, a September 16, 2025 reconsideration proposal had suggested no industries would need to submit annual greenhouse gas reports for calendar year 2025 at all, and the EPA says it received over 50,000 comments on that proposal.
Our take
The Environmental Protection Agency is a fucking joke. Its sole job is to make sure polluters file their goddamn paperwork, and Lee Zeldin’s crew just announced they can’t even build the fucking website for it. They’ve had since 2025 to get their shit together, and now 8,200 facilities get a free pass because the EPA’s e-GGRT tool is apparently coded in crayon by a lobotomized intern. This is the bureaucratic equivalent of a teacher cancelling the final exam because they lost the answer key and then blaming the students for asking about it too soon. What a pack of useless cunts. Their legal justification for skipping public input is a masterpiece of bullshit: asking for comment was “impracticable and contrary to the public interest.” Translation: you plebs would have told us we’re incompetent, and we find your reality very inconvenient. So they slammed the rule into effect and are now politely requesting comments for six weeks after the fact. It’s like taking a massive, steaming dump on the public’s desk and then handing out a feedback form asking if the smell is to everyone’s liking. This is the second time they’ve pushed this deadline back, after already floating the idea of just not requiring the reports at all - an idea that generated 50,000 comments they clearly wiped their asses with. Zeldin, a man who whines constantly about regulatory red tape, is proving he’s the biggest fan of red tape when it’s the limp, soggy kind that lets his polluter buddies off the hook. The rule does nothing but move a date. No emissions cut, no new science, just a pathetic administrative fuck-up enshrined in the Federal Register. This isn’t governance; it’s a public confession of institutional impotence, signed by a grinning dickhead in front of a flag. The only thing they’re protecting is their own embarrassing incompetence. Fuck every last one of them. They couldn’t organize a piss-up in a brewery, let alone a functional reporting system for planet-killing pollution. Absolute clown show. End of story. End of take. Go file your comments into the void, you stupid bastards. It’s already done. You’re welcome for the extra five months to cook the books, industry fucks. Enjoy. We’re all fucked.
