The facts
The Trump administration has asked a federal judge to send the New England Wind project’s approval back to the Interior Department for reconsideration, citing potential major adverse impacts. The Interior Department had approved the project in 2024. This action marks the fourth offshore wind project targeted by the administration, which is also seeking review of Revolution Wind and a Maryland project. A judge had previously allowed a review of the Atlantic Shores project. New England Wind, if completed, could feature up to 129 turbines and provide electricity for approximately 900,000 homes, though construction has not yet commenced. According to the Interior Department, the recent filing adhered to a briefing schedule and does not signify a policy shift.
Our take
Donald Trump, the world's most famous climate change denier and windmill cancer truther, is at it again. This time, his administration's legal dickheads have filed paperwork to fuck over the New England Wind project, the fourth such clean energy initiative they've decided to piss on from a great height. They want a judge to send the approval back to the Interior Department because the project might have 'major adverse impacts.' What impacts, you ask? Maybe the tragic impact of 900,000 homes getting reliable electricity without burning dinosaur bones. The sheer horror.
Interior, trying to cover its own ass, claims this bullshit filing just follows a 'briefing schedule' and isn't a policy change. Right. And Trump's hair just follows the natural laws of physics. This is the same policy of obstructive, science-hating cowardice that has defined this grifter's entire approach to governance: if it helps people and doesn't have his name on it in gold leaf, kill it with lawyers.
They've already got their claws into Revolution Wind and some Maryland project, and a judge already let them fuck with Atlantic Shores. It's a full-on, petty-ass crusade against giant pinwheels, because the orange bastard thinks they're ugly and probably steal the wind from his golf courses. Meanwhile, this project could power nearly a million homes with up to 129 turbines, but who gives a shit about that when there's a chance to own the libs and please some oil baron donors?
So here we are, watching a man who couldn't find the Department of Energy on a map deliberately sabotage the country's energy future because the technology doesn't involve coal or his own ego. It's a pathetic, transparent act of vandalism by a professional asshole who views progress as a personal insult. The only 'major adverse impact' here is the continued existence of this administration's fossilized brain trust.
