The facts
The United States imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC), escalating actions against the court which the Trump administration has accused of politicization and unfairly targeting Americans for war crime charges. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, “Either the ICC will end its threats, or we will end the ICC.” Rubio announced in a video that the U.S. would impose financial sanctions, banning transactions with the court and cutting off its resources. He declared, The United States and the American people are not subject to the jurisdiction of this fake ICC. We don’t need that court and we don’t want it. The ICC responded, warning that “history will judge this moment” and calling the sanctions an attempt to “obstruct the course of justice” and an “assault on the rule of law and on the very foundations of the international legal order.” The new sanctions block any ICC assets in U.S. jurisdictions and give U.S. companies six months to wind down business with the tribunal. The Trump administration has previously condemned the ICC for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli officials and for opening an investigation into U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. Trump first imposed sanctions on the ICC during his first term, which were reversed under the Biden administration. Upon returning to office in 2025, Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the ICC for its investigations into Israelis and Americans, and the administration has continued to add sanctions on judges and lawyers at the ICC.
Our take
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a man whose entire political persona is built on being a tough guy for the cameras, stood up and delivered a performance so pathetic it makes a schoolyard bully look like a fucking diplomat. This absolute cunt, in a video no less, declared that the United States would impose financial sanctions on the International Criminal Court, banning transactions and cutting off its resources. His big line? "Either the ICC will end its threats, or we will end the ICC." What a colossal fucking prick. What are you going to do, Marco? Send them to their room? The sheer, unadulterated vanity of this shit is breathtaking. The United States, a country that has spent decades lecturing the world on the rule of law and holding others accountable, has now decided that the only good court is one that never, ever looks at its own citizens. Especially not for boring little things like, you know, war crimes in Afghanistan. The Trump administration, a gaggle of grifters and cowards who treat international institutions like a buffet they can shit on, has been on this tear since day one. They condemned the court for looking at Israelis, they whined about it looking at Americans, and now they're throwing a full-blown tantrum with the financial equivalent of taking their ball and going home. They're blocking ICC assets and giving companies six months to stop doing business with the tribunal. It's the diplomatic version of a five-year-old holding his breath until he turns blue because he doesn't want to eat his vegetables. The ICC's response, that history will judge this moment as an assault on the rule of law, is too fucking polite. History will judge this as the moment a once-great power officially became a global dickhead, a nation of spoiled, self-important brats who think laws are for other people. Trump already tried this shit in his first term, Biden reversed it like a sane adult, and now the clown car is back in power and doubling down. They're not just sanctioning the institution; they're adding sanctions on judges and lawyers. Because nothing says We are innocent and have nothing to hide like trying to bankrupt and intimidate the prosecutors. This isn't policy; it's the foreign policy of a coked-up mob boss who thinks he's above the law. It's a confession wrapped in a threat, delivered by a man who looks like he's trying to remember his lines. The whole pathetic spectacle is a monument to American hypocrisy and a giant middle finger to the very concept of justice. What a bunch of bastards.
