In January 2025, the World Meteorological Organization said 2024 was the warmest year in its observational record at that time. The consolidated estimate: about 1.55°C above the 1850–1900 average.
One calendar year above 1.5°C is not the same thing as the Paris Agreement’s long-term threshold being formally crossed. Annual heat and a multi-year average are different measurements. That is not a loophole. It is how the math works.

You can fight all day about cost, nuclear, China, and who pays. Pretending the thermometer registered Republican or Democrat is a stupid place to start the fight.
It is also possible to oversell a real finding because the cause is good. A scary headline does not get a free pass. Read the number. Read what the number means. Then have the argument about what to do.
The atmosphere is not watching cable news. It is not waiting for your team to finish a segment. It just keeps the receipt. If that hurts your identity, your identity is the problem.
