The Feds Just Wiped 3.7 Million Scammer Accounts. The Pig Butchers Are Fucked.

The Justice Department's "Joint Disruption Week" raided scam compounds in Ghana and Nigeria, seized 303 devices in one Accra suburb, and vaporized millions of burner profiles. The romance-scam industry just had its worst week since AOL discs.

The facts

Last week, a coordinated international operation dubbed "Joint Disruption Week" hit transnational criminal scam networks operating out of West Africa, producing arrests, seizures, and what the Justice Department calls the largest-ever takedown of fraudulent social media accounts linked to scam centers in the region. The operation was hosted by the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency in London and included the DOJ, the FBI, the Secret Service, the Treasury Department, Homeland Security Investigations, the Nigerian Joint Case Team on Cybercrimes, the Ghanaian Cyber Security Authority, INTERPOL, and law enforcement agencies from Australia, Canada, Ghana, India, New Zealand, and Nigeria.

Several private industry partners took action on their own networks. The companies reported that they "removed more than 3.7 million accounts, Pages and Groups targeting people in the U.S., UK and beyond, and shared leads on over 30 suspected scam centers with law enforcement, resulting in dozens of arrests, the rescue of trafficking victims, and cryptocurrency seizures." The release names Meta, Adobe, Binance, Coinbase, Cyjax, Elliptic, Chainalysis, Flashpoint, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Silent Push, Starlink and TRM Labs as collaborators, and says more than $11 million in potential freezable funds were identified.

On the ground, a consortium of international law enforcement agencies made 28 arrests. In the Accra suburb of Sasaabi, Ghana, authorities arrested 19 individuals and seized 303 electronic devices; they also identified 117 victims of human trafficking that are now pending repatriation to Nigeria, plus 89 additional victims of the scams with an approximate loss of $8.3 million. In Nigeria, authorities arrested nine individuals and seized 53 electronic devices. The disrupted schemes included law enforcement impersonation scams, digital "arrest" extortion schemes, and cryptocurrency investment fraud, also known as "pig butchering"

The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center numbers put the scale in context: investment scams were reported 72,984 times in 2025, with cryptocurrency investment fraud comprising 72 percent of that category; reported losses rose from $3.96 billion in 2023 to $5.8 billion in 2024, and reported losses for investment scams with a cryptocurrency nexus rose 24 percent in 2025 to over $7.2 billion. One government report put a conservative estimate of the annual value of funds stolen by scam syndicates worldwide at nearly $64 billion as of the end of 2023.

Our take

Holy shit. Somewhere in the Accra suburb of Sasaabi, a greedy cunt who thought he was running a tech startup just watched his entire fucking empire get turned off because a bunch of nerds at Adobe and Microsoft decided to do their jobs for a week. Three point seven million accounts. That's not a takedown, that's a fucking genocide of burner profiles. The whole West African pig-butchering industry - this multi-billion-dollar grift built on texting lonely boomers about crypto - was apparently held together by the digital equivalent of Scotch tape and a prayer. One coordinated week and the whole house of cards collapsed. What a pathetic fucking operation.

Let's look at the inventory from this shitshow. Authorities seized 303 electronic devices in one fucking suburb. Three hundred and three. That's not a scam center, that's a goddamn Best Buy after a hurricane. And nestled right alongside all those laptops, the DOJ found 117 human-trafficking victims pending repatriation. Of course they did. Because the absolute bastards who run industrial-scale romance fraud are, shockingly, also running an industrial-scale slave trade. These aren't clever hackers; they're predatory pieces of shit who recruit, train, and deploy workers like a fucking call center from hell. They're the reason your aunt keeps getting texts from a widowed oil rig engineer.

The scale of their grift is fucking astronomical. The FBI says reported losses for crypto investment scams alone hit over $7.2 billion in 2025. Worldwide, these scum-sucking syndicates are estimated to steal nearly $64 billion a year. Against that backdrop, arresting 28 dickheads and freezing $11 million feels like trying to bail out the Titanic with a thimble. But fuck it, a thimble's worth of justice is still justice. This week, 3.7 million fake profiles got deleted, 89 specific victims were identified, and one compound in Ghana got so quiet you could hear a scammer piss his pants.

For all the self-congratulatory bullshit in the press release - FBI Director Kash Patel puffing his chest about "demolishing Scam Centers" - the real story is in the pathetic details. The whole global scam ecosystem, worth tens of billions, was so fragile that a single week of coordinated logouts could cripple it. Their entire business model was a fucking bluff. They built a palace on a platform they didn't own, and the landlords finally changed the locks. For these greedy, trafficking, piece-of-shit con artists, this wasn't just a bad week. It was a preview of their entire fucking future going up in smoke.
