The facts
US stocks declined on Thursday, with the Nasdaq Composite dropping 2.8%, the S&P 500 falling 1.4%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average losing 85 points, or 0.2%. This downturn occurred as investors considered worries about artificial-intelligence spending and increased oil prices, alongside escalating geopolitical tensions. Meta shares decreased by 8% despite surpassing revenue expectations and providing positive guidance. Advanced Micro Devices saw a drop of over 8%, Micron fell 6%, and Nvidia declined 4%. CNBC reported that traders indicated comments regarding the magnitude of AI funding requirements and restricted capital availability fueled investor apprehension. Oil prices rose after The New York Times reported, citing sources, that the United States and Israel were planning renewed strikes against Iran after the upcoming US midterm elections. Brent crude settled 4% higher at $113.17 per barrel, and West Texas Intermediate gained 2.4% to $99.47. Investors also purchased US Treasurys, with the 10-year yield falling more than 18 basis points to 4.965% and the two-year yield declining more than 17 basis points to 4.65%.
Our take
Well, fuck me sideways with a soldering iron. The entire multi-trillion-dollar AI fantasy house of cards just got a gentle whisper of fiscal reality blown its way, and the whole thing collapsed like a cheap tent in a hurricane. The Nasdaq shit itself for a 2.8% loss because some fucking trader probably muttered the phrase 'capital availability' in a men's room, and suddenly every dipshit who thought buying Nvidia at a 200x P/E ratio was a genius move remembered that money doesn't grow on goddamn silicon trees. Investors, the same greedy pricks who have been jacking themselves off over 'AI spending' for two years, suddenly got the vapors when they considered that such spending might require... get this... actual fucking money. What a shocking revelation, you absolute cunts. It's like building a religion around a magic money printer and then having a panic attack when someone asks where you're getting the ink.
Meta, the company that burns cash like a trust fund kid at a strip club, managed to beat expectations and still saw its stock piss away 8% of its value. Because in this market, good news is just a prelude to the bad news that you might eventually have to pay for the shit you're building. AMD, Micron, Nvidia - the whole silicon priesthood took a collective nosedive because the congregation got a glimpse of the collection plate. The sheer, unadulterated cowardice on display is breathtaking. These are the same bastards who lecture us about innovation and the future, but the moment the concept of 'funding requirements' enters the chat, they turn into whimpering children who just realized their allowance isn't infinite.
And while the tech geniuses were having their little tantrum, the adults in the room were busy buying oil because, oh yeah, the world is still a fucking dangerous place. Brent crude spiked 4% on rumors of more planned strikes in the Middle East, because nothing says 'stable investment environment' like the constant threat of geopolitical fireworks. So we have the 'visionaries' running from their own shadow, and the 'war traders' calmly making bank on the prospect of more explosions. It's a perfect fucking metaphor: the future is a delicate flower that wilts at the mention of a budget, while the present is a barrel of explosives that gets more valuable by the day. What a pathetic, stupid circus. The only thing more volatile than the price of oil is the nerve of these Silicon Valley dickheads who built a trillion-dollar bubble on fairy dust and got scared by the bill.
