The facts
The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a Michigan woman challenging a school district's ban on "Let's Go Brandon" sweatshirts. The woman contended that the ban violated her two sons' First Amendment rights, as they were instructed to remove the clothing in 2022. A lower court had previously ruled against her, determining that the phrase's veiled profanity, functioning as a substitute for "F - Joe Biden," justified the school's action. Attorneys for the woman argued that this decision grants school officials excessive power to suppress political expression based on subjective interpretations of vulgarity, asserting that the phrase itself contains no explicit profanity or sexual connotations. The school district, in its plea to the justices, maintained that messages with lewd implications, regardless of their political nature, are inappropriate for a school environment. The phrase gained prominence in 2021 following a NASCAR race incident where a crowd's chant directed at President Biden was misreported by a sports reporter as "Let's Go, Brandon."
Our take
Well, well, well, the Supreme Court has officially declared that trying to smuggle a shitty political slogan into class inside a pair of shitty sweatshirts is not, in fact, the civil rights crusade of our time. What a stunning blow to the brave, brave warriors of middle-school edgelordism. Their champion? A mother who decided the hill to die on was a piece of apparel so cringingly juvenile it makes a whoopee cushion look like a treatise on Kantian ethics. These little shits got sent to the principal’s office for wearing code so fucking transparent a lobotomized goldfish could crack it, and now the highest court in the land has essentially said, Yeah, no shit, take the dumb shirt off. The school’s crime, according to this absolute pillar of parental priorities, was having the gall to suggest that maybe a classroom shouldn’t double as a venue for chants of Fuck Joe Biden. Imagine being such a pathetic, performative prick that you think your kid’s right to be a walking, talking political dog-whistle - one that just barks “fuck” at the teacher - is a matter for nine justices. The sheer, staggering vanity of it. This woman lawyered up, spent God knows how much money and time, and dragged this bullshit through multiple courts because her precious boys couldn’t wear their special secret club shirts. What a heroic legacy. Son, I fought all the way to the Supreme Court so you could passive-aggressively insult the president with a phrase invented because a fucking NASCAR reporter was too chickenshit to say what he heard. The school district argued, correctly, that letting this slide would turn every classroom into a fucking meme war where little assholes test the limits with increasingly “coded” insults. The Court, by not touching this with a ten-foot pole, has basically told every other grievance-grifter parent with a closet full of provocative merch to go piss up a rope. Your kid’s free speech doesn’t cover your right to use them as a billboard for your own impotent political rage. Now go fold the fucking sweatshirt and maybe help them with their math homework instead, you absolute clown. The case is closed, and so is your pathetic, performative rebellion. Get fucked.
