Sanchez Shits His Pants, Calls Election After Seven Catalan Pricks Show Him the Door

Facing a housing bill revolt from his own coalition and nationwide protests over an 87-year-old's eviction, Spain's prime minister has opted for a political piss-break: a snap election in November.

The facts

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced a surprise early election for November 29, 2026 after his emergency housing measures were rejected on October 2. Seven lawmakers from the Catalan separatist party Junts, whose votes have been crucial for the minority government, voted against the measures. Spain has not passed a regular budget since 2023, relying on the 2023 budget. The housing shortage is acute, with the Bank of Spain estimating a deficit of about 750,000 homes that could exceed one million by 2028. The eviction of 87‑year‑old Maria del Carmen Abascal sparked nationwide protests and a 24‑hour general strike called by unions CCOO and UGT. The right‑wing Vox party is polling just over 18%, up six points from the 2023 election, and is expected to be a key player alongside the People’s Party (PP) in the upcoming vote.

Our take

Well, fuck me sideways. Pedro Sanchez, the master of clinging to power by his fucking fingernails, has finally run out of other people's votes to steal. His big plan to look like he gave a single shit about the housing crisis - a bill so 'emergency' it was probably written on a napkin - just got flushed down the parliamentary toilet by the seven Catalan separatist dickheads from Junts who’ve been propping his pathetic minority government up for years. And what's his brilliant response? Not to, I don't know, fucking govern? No. It's to announce a surprise election for November 29th, like a kid who calls 'time out' right before he gets tagged in a game of tag. What a colossal, self-serving cunt.

Let's be clear about what this prick is actually running from. Spain hasn't passed a real budget since fucking 2023. He's been governing with a three-year-old financial plan like a teenager trying to stretch last year's jeans over his fat fucking ego. Meanwhile, the country is short about 750,000 homes, a number so embarrassing it sounds like a failed five-year plan from a bankrupt property developer. This isn't an abstract crisis; it's the kind of shit that gets an 87-year-old grandmother named Maria del Carmen Abascal tossed into the street, which then sparks nationwide protests and a 24-hour general strike. Sanchez's government isn't solving that. It's a fucking spectator sport to him.

So he's bolting. He's taking his ball, his empty promises, and his complete lack of a budgetary spine, and he's hoping the Spanish people are stupid enough to give him a new mandate instead of holding him accountable for the current shitshow. The pathetic part is, his 'bold reset' is almost certainly going to blow up in his smug fucking face. While he's been busy not passing budgets and not building houses, the right-wing Vox party has been quietly polishing its jackboots, polling at over 18% - a six-point jump since the last election. Sanchez isn't calling an election to save Spain; he's calling it to save his own ass from a daily humiliation in parliament, and he's practically handing the keys to a coalition where Vox gets to be the power-broking bastard in the room.

This isn't strategy. It's political incontinence. He felt a little pressure from his own coalition partners and from old ladies getting evicted, and he pissed his premiership all over the calendar. Now the country gets to spend the next two months listening to this sanctimonious clown pretend he wants a 'dialogue with the people' when what he really wants is a do-over on a game he's already losing. The only housing solution Sanchez has offered is a one-way ticket out of office for himself, and frankly, it's the one bit of construction he might actually get done. What a useless, cowardly, election-calling asshole.
