Russia's Winter Campaign: The Annual Assault on Appliances

The Kremlin's biggest energy strike since spring killed at least five, including a child, proving its only coherent military doctrine is freezing civilians and blowing up schools.

The facts

Russia launched its largest attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the spring, primarily targeting Kyiv and the surrounding region, according to Ukraine's Prime Minister. At least five people were killed in overnight attacks across the country, including a child in the Kyiv region, Serhiy Koretskyi stated. The strikes also impacted power supplies, with DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy firm, reporting power restoration to 8,000 homes following a challenging night for the capital. The Russian defense ministry claimed it targeted the Trypilska power station, the largest supplier of electricity to Kyiv, and the plant's operator confirmed damage. Koretskyi wrote on Telegram that while there have been daily attacks on energy infrastructure since summer, an attack of this scale has not occurred since the end of the last heating season. Ukraine has anticipated prolonged Russian assaults on its energy grid, a pattern observed each winter since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022. In total, 11 regions were attacked overnight, with residential buildings, social infrastructure, civilian enterprises, and railways also targeted, Koretskyi said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported strikes on critical infrastructure in the Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, and Rivne regions. On Wednesday, some households in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions remained without power, Ukraine's energy ministry reported. State-owned grid operator Ukrenergo advised residents to avoid using powerful electrical appliances between 10:00 and 16:00 local time due to lower-than-usual electricity supplies. In Kyiv, residents woke to thick, acrid smoke after a night of explosions, with air raid alerts and distant gunfire audible. Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klischko reported three deaths in the capital, including a utility company worker. Another person was killed in the Mykolaiv region, and two more in the Sumy region, where a school was also hit in a separate strike. Russia's defense ministry stated it launched massive overnight strikes on Ukrainian facilities, including the Trypilska thermal power plant.

Our take

Well, look at that. The world's most pathetic military-industrial complex has kicked off its annual fucking festival: the Great Winter War on Washing Machines. According to the Russian defense ministry's pathetic little statement, they launched massive overnight strikes on Ukrainian facilities, including the Trypilska thermal power plant. 'Massive.' For these dickheads, 'massive' means they finally managed to hit the one giant, stationary object that powers an entire capital city after two years of trying. The plant's operator confirmed damage, which is like a burglar posting a LinkedIn update about successfully breaking a window. What a proud moment for a force whose entire strategy is 'if we can't capture it, we'll freeze the people who live there.'

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi wrote on Telegram that this is the largest attack since the last heating season ended. No shit. It's the grand reopening of your only successful franchise: State-Sponsored Hypothermia. You've been doing daily, pathetic little pinpricks since summer, like a mosquito buzzing in a dark room, but this was the big event where you emptied the whole magazine at the fucking electrical grid. Eleven regions hit. Residential buildings, social infrastructure, civilian enterprises, railways. Not a single verified military target on the whole fucking list, because finding one would require basic competence, you absolute cunts. Your entire operational plan is just a spreadsheet of civilian life-support systems with a 'DESTROY' checkbox next to each one.

President Zelensky reported strikes on critical infrastructure in multiple regions. 'Critical' for what, you pricks? For keeping hospitals lit and old people's hearts beating? Your 'special military operation' is a special ed class in mass murder, where the final exam is killing a utility worker - as Kyiv's mayor reported - who was probably out there trying to fix the very shit you broke. You killed a child in the Kyiv region. Let that marinate in your vodka-soaked propaganda brains: your crowning achievement this week is a small coffin. Another person dead in Mykolaiv, two more in Sumy where you also managed to hit a school. A school. Because the greatest threat to your army of fucking morons is a population that can read a map and count your catastrophic losses.

The glorious result of your majestic, 'massive' campaign? The state grid operator, Ukrenergo, is begging citizens to please not use their powerful appliances between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. because you've turned the national power supply into a fragile joke. Kyiv residents woke up to thick, acrid smoke. That's your entire legacy, you rancid bastards: not victory, but a bad smell. Not captured territory, but a nationwide advisory to maybe hold off on doing the laundry. You are not soldiers; you are state-funded arsonists, too fucking useless to fight an army so you just burn down the concept of a warm home. Every winter, you don't prove you're a superpower; you prove you're a super-asshole with a missile budget and the strategic depth of a puddle. The only thing truly 'massive' here is the scale of your cowardice. Fuck your entire terrorist season.
