Paris Cops Impose Bedtime for Two Whole Blocks After Weekend of Looting and Rioting

Police declare curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for two tiny districts, banning gatherings from 8 p.m., after a weekend where the city was on fire. The Prime Minister says it's 'very limited,' which is also a perfect description of their fucking imagination.

The facts

Paris police announced an overnight curfew for the Place de la République and the Les Halles shopping district, from 11 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, and separately banned gatherings and demonstrations from 8 p.m. The order aims to protect people and property after a weekend of rioting and looting. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu had called earlier Monday for “very limited” and localized curfews. He defended police handling by stating that nobody was killed on Saturday despite severe violence and property damage. President Emmanuel Macron refused Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez’s resignation, citing the need for continued law-enforcement command. Macron asked Nuñez to address failures in planning and intelligence gathering. The curfew applies to specific areas within the French capital, aiming to de-escalate tensions and prevent further unrest following several nights of disturbances. The decision reflects a broader governmental response to the ongoing public disorder.

Our take

Well, fuck me sideways. After a weekend where Paris looked like the opening scene of a dystopian movie, the brave fucking gendarmes have cracked the case. Their brilliant, galaxy-brained solution? A bedtime for two fucking neighborhoods. That'll show 'em. The Place de la République and Les Halles shopping district are now under a strict lights-out policy from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Gatherings are banned from 8 p.m., because obviously the real problem was people assembling for a nice, quiet 8:30 p.m. book club. This is the strategic equivalent of putting a band-aid on a severed artery and then scheduling a seminar on proper band-aid application for next Tuesday. The Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, a man whose grasp on reality is apparently as limited as his proposed curfew, called this a 'very limited' measure. No shit, Sherlock. It's so limited it's practically a fucking suggestion. He then defended the police by pointing out that nobody was killed on Saturday, which is the law-enforcement version of a chef boasting that nobody died from food poisoning at his restaurant, even though the entire dining room is covered in shit and the kitchen is still on fire. It's a pathetic, self-congratulatory metric from a government that has clearly lost the plot. Meanwhile, President Emmanuel Macron refused his Interior Minister's resignation, because what this shitshow needs is continuity of command from the clowns who failed to predict or plan for any of it. Macron told the minister to look into 'failures in planning and intelligence gathering,' which is like asking the arsonist to write a report on why the match was so flammable. The entire response is a masterclass in cowardly, reactive, small-dick energy governance. They're not protecting people and property; they're drawing a tiny, meaningless line in the sand of two city blocks and pretending it's a Maginot Line. It's a performative waste of time and resources, a signal to the public that their leaders are more interested in the appearance of control than actually exercising any. The rioters spent the weekend tearing the city apart, and the state's answer is to tell two specific squares to go the fuck to sleep. What an absolute, towering monument to bureaucratic uselessness. The only thing this curfew will de-escalate is the police's overtime budget, because even the looters are probably laughing too hard to go out. This isn't a policy; it's a public admission that they have no fucking clue what they're doing, served with a side of smug, empty PR. Utter, consummate shit.
