The facts
On Sunday, 18 October 2026, shortly before 04:50 BST, a Nottinghamshire Police officer was shot in the foot while approaching two suspects in Angel Row, Nottingham city centre. The force confirmed the officer was taken to hospital for treatment of the wound. Detectives recovered a firearm at the scene and said the suspects – a man and a woman – fled. Angel Row was closed and a large police cordon was established, later extending to St James’s Street, with forensic officers attending. Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas described the incident as “shocking” and a “sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers.” The East Midlands Ambulance Service posted wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
Our take
Right, so a Nottinghamshire Police officer gets his foot ventilated by a bullet at quarter to five in the fucking morning, and the top brass’s first instinct is to treat it like a goddamn training video. Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas, you absolute cunt, you described this as a 'sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers.' No shit, Claire. A cop got shot. That is the danger. It’s not a 'reminder,' it’s the actual fucking event. You don’t need to remind us that getting shot is dangerous; the officer’s perforated foot is doing all the necessary reminding, you bureaucratic piss-taker.
What you should be doing is telling us who the man and woman who fled are, or explaining how the fuck two suspects with a gun manage to vanish after shooting a copper in a city centre. But no, you’ve got your PR department’s dick so far down your throat that you can only cough up this generic, hero-wank spiel. It’s a 'sobering reminder' the same way a turd in your cereal is a 'sobering reminder' that shit isn’t food. It’s not profound, it’s just the obvious, pathetic reality you’re trying to spin into a badge-polishing moment.
Let’s look at the actual work: a firearm was recovered, which is good, but the suspects are gone, and the main achievement seems to be establishing a 'large police cordon' that later 'extended' to another street. Brilliant. You’ve successfully taped off a bigger area. The forensic officers are attending, which presumably means they’re looking at the bullet hole in the pavement and the pool of blood, while you’re attending to the much more critical task of crafting a press release that makes the force sound like a band of brave explorers facing the unknown, rather than a group who just let two armed pricks shoot a colleague and run away.
Even the East Midlands Ambulance Service felt the need to post their 'wishes for a full and speedy recovery,' which is nice, but it just adds to the chorus of meaningless, institutional well-wishing that does fuck-all to catch the people who did this. The community doesn’t need your sobering reminders, Claire. They need descriptions, leads, and results. Instead, they get a management seminar on occupational hazards delivered by a dickhead who thinks a cop getting shot is primarily a 'potential' for a teaching moment. The only thing being sobered here is our faith that you lot have a grip on anything beyond the thesaurus entry for 'vaguely heroic bullshit.' The officer’s in hospital with a hole in his foot, and you’re in your office with your head firmly up your own ass, mining his pain for a soundbite. You’re a fucking disgrace.
