The facts
AP reports that Boulder City residents opposed a proposed artificial intelligence data center on local land, after which its developers withdrew that application and sought adjacent federal property. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management approved the federal-land plan, the first such data center approval in the country, but construction is stalled after a judge ruled that officials could not rely on an environmental review prepared when the site was planned for solar power. Nevada has large federal land holdings and more than a dozen similar projects are being planned elsewhere. Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo supports public-land projects if communities support them and signed a federal agreement to streamline infrastructure approvals. Democratic nominee Aaron Ford has pledged to oppose data centers on public lands. Both candidates say projects must meet state energy and water rules.
Our take
So the geniuses behind this AI data center thought they'd just plop their power-guzzling bullshit factory down in Boulder City. The locals, presumably not total morons, said get the fuck out. So what's a visionary tech grifter to do? Just sidestep over to the adjacent federal land, because why bother with the people who actually live there when you can just ask the fucking Bureau of Land Management? And the BLM, in a stunning display of bureaucratic cowardice, approved it. The first of its kind! A monument to corporate dick-sucking on public property. Never mind that a judge had to step in and point out the fucking obvious: you can't just reuse an environmental review for a solar farm and pretend it covers your AI server wank-palace. That's like using a permit for a garden shed to build a fucking meth lab.
Enter the political clowns. Governor Joe Lombardo, a real piece of work, says he's all for these projects - as long as the community is cool with it. Brilliant fucking stance, Joe. The community just told them to piss off, so they went to the feds. Your 'support' is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. You even signed a deal to 'streamline' this shit, which is politician-speak for 'make it easier for my donors to bypass anyone with a functioning brain.'
Then there's Aaron Ford, the Democratic nominee, who has *pledged* to oppose these centers on public land. Wow. A pledge. How brave. He'll oppose them unless, one assumes, the polling changes or a big check arrives. Both these assholes are falling over themselves to say the projects must meet state energy and water rules. No shit, Sherlock. The problem is the rules are for the state, and they're trying to use federal land to dodge the local backlash, you fucking dunces.
Nevada's got tons of federal land and more than a dozen of these parasitic projects in the pipeline. So the whole race is boiling down to which grinning prick gets to preside over the sell-off of America's public dirt to the highest-bidding data center, all while pretending to give a single fuck about 'the community' they just helped circumvent. It's a masterclass in hollow, posturing bullshit. They're not leaders; they're just two different flavors of real estate pimp for Silicon Valley's thirstiest fuck-ups.
