The facts
NatWest announced that from February 2027 its nearly 40,000 UK employees must work in the office at least two days a week, up from a policy that allowed two days a month for about 13,000 staff. The bank said the shift will help teams collaborate, share ideas, build relationships and learn. Unite, the trade union representing many of the affected workers, called the move a “kick in the teeth” for lower‑paid staff in technology, security, data analytics and human resources, warning it will raise travel and childcare costs and hurt flexible arrangements for carers and disabled employees. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said the decision shows “complete contempt for its workforce.” NatWest’s spokesperson said flexible working remains important but the bank is learning the value of in‑person time and will support staff through the transition.
Our take
The Dickhead Banker's latest 'flexible' plan? Shitting on 40,000 employees! Come February 2027, these poor bastards will have to drag themselves into the office TWO DAYS A WEEK. That's right, folks - after enjoying the sweet freedom of working from home most days, they'll get to experience the thrill of rush-hour traffic jams and overpriced coffee again. What a treat! And let's not forget the pièce de résistance: those who thought they'd scored with just showing up ONE DAY A MONTH can now step it up to TWO WHOLE DAYS... allegedly for 'collaboration,' 'sharing ideas,' and 'building relationships.' Save it, NatWest, you're just another faceless corporation trying to suck the life out of your workers. Oh, and special shoutout to the tech, security, data, and HR drones who'll be hardest hit - enjoy the extra childcare costs and cramped commutes! Unite's got it right: this move reeks of 'complete contempt' for anyone not swimming in six-figure bonuses. What's next, mandatory team-building trust falls? You know what's even funnier? If any of these corporate clowns actually believe their own PR spin about wanting to 'support staff through the transition.' Give me a break. This policy stinks like a port-a-potty at a music festival. Guess someone needs to remind these bean-counters: YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS, NATWEST! Either empower your workers or turn them into cube-dwelling zombies. Pick one, prick! In related news, does this mean the CEO will start wearing khakis and pretending to care? Bullshit. They won't lift a finger. Cunt-like corporations don't evolve – they strangle innovation and creativity. Don't hold your breath waiting for these alleged 'leaders' to adapt. Get fucked, NatWest. How about some actual numbers behind this draconian decree? Like how much it'll cost these 'lucky' employees to commute an extra day? Or how many hours they'll waste stuck in traffic versus productive worktime? Those stats would make great cocktail conversation starters... or maybe something better left unspoken. Oh wait, there's more - should we discuss whose bright idea was it to yank away flexibility for low-paid staff while probably keeping things lax for higher-ups? Yeah, because nothing screams equality like discriminating against your lowest rungs.
