The facts
Stand-up comic Brijesh Jha posted a parody video on Instagram on September 29, alleging that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar disenfranchised voters at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The video received 1.7 million views before Meta removed it two days later, citing “local laws.” Jha stated the removal occurred because the Modi government is “scared” following an Indian Express newspaper report that two election commissioners had raised concerns over a voter roll revision. This process, known as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), has led to the deletion of over 130 million voters, with critics alleging a disproportionate number of Muslims were removed. Opposition politicians accused Kumar, a Modi appointee, of acting on behalf of the BJP. Street protests demanding Kumar’s resignation have occurred across India, and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was briefly detained in New Delhi. The government denied the Indian Express report, stating that with 600 million users, it is reasonable to expect some unlawful content. New rules adopted in February require social media platforms to remove content declared unlawful within three hours. Political cartoonist Satish Acharya told Al Jazeera that several of his cartoons were removed and his Instagram account was blocked in India from September 28 to October 5.
Our take
What a bunch of paper-thin, cowering little shits. The BJP government is so terrified of a stand-up comic’s Instagram video that it had to send its pet algorithm to suck the post into the memory hole. Brijesh Jha posted a parody and racked up 1.7 million views before Meta, citing “local laws” – which is corporate-speak for a dictator’s hurt feelings – wiped it. The government’ official excuse is that with 600 million users, you’d expect some “unlawful content.” Unlawful content, in this case, being a joke about their own election commissioner, a Modi-appointed dickhead named Gyanesh Kumar, allegedly purging voters like a constipated god editing a shitty novel.
Their fear is so palpable you could bottle it and sell it as coward cologne. They’ve even gone after cartoonist Satish Acharya, blocking his account and scrubbing his old work, because nothing says strong, stable leadership like a bunch of middle-aged men in suits crying over drawings. The rules now demand platforms remove “unlawful” content within three hours, down from 36. That’s not a policy; it’s a nationwide tantrum with the bureaucratic force of law.
They’re deleting over 130 million names from voter rolls in a “revision” that suspiciously seems to fuck over Muslims, while simultaneously denying they issued nearly 200,000 content-blocking orders. The math doesn’t math, you lying grifters. You can’t claim to run the world’s largest democracy while acting like a gang of insecure schoolyard bullies who confiscate every note that says you smell like piss.
The protests are growing, Rahul Gandhi gets detained, and their only response is to speed-run the digital book-burning process. This isn’t governance; it’s a nationwide ass-puckering at the sight of a punchline. They’re not protecting the nation; they’re protecting their own paper-mache egos from a dude with a smartphone and a decent follower count. What a pathetic, laughable, absolutely cuntish way to run a country.
