The facts
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz announced that the White House Fraud Task Force is removing 750,000 recipients from Obamacare, a move Vice President JD Vance stated will save taxpayers $2.2 billion. Oz described these as "phantom accounts" with no verifiable human involvement, noting that outreach attempts to these individuals yielded no claims or responses. He also stated that 1.1 million Obamacare recipients did not have Social Security numbers. Oz is urging health insurers to collaborate with brokers who record conversations with applicants to increase transparency and verify eligibility. He believes this measure will help ensure that customers are real, have had genuine discussions about policies, and truly qualify for the program, thereby preventing "massive corporate fraud." The administration is also reportedly encouraging health insurance companies to participate in this anti-fraud initiative. Oz indicated that further measures are planned to protect Americans from being taken advantage of.
Our take
Well, fuck me sideways. The grifter-in-chief of daytime TV snake oil, Dr. Mehmet Oz, has apparently found a new batch of suckers to save us from: people who don’t exist. This absolute cunt of a bureaucrat, who made a career peddling miracle cures to credulous housewives, is now the nation’s top healthcare fraud cop, announcing he’s kicked 750,000 “phantom accounts” off the Obamacare rolls. According to the dickhead, these were accounts with no verifiable human involvement, which is a fancy way of saying his staff called a bunch of numbers and got sent straight to voicemail, probably one that just played the sound of wind blowing across a deserted prairie. What a stunning fucking revelation. It’s almost as if maintaining accurate enrollment data in a massive federal program is hard work, you pompous asshole, not a magic trick you can solve by selling people green coffee bean extract.
But Oz, never one to miss a chance to self-aggrandize, didn’t stop there. The prick also casually dropped that 1.1 million Obamacare recipients don’t have Social Security numbers. He didn’t say they were fraudulent, or fake, or ghosts - just that they lack that specific nine-digit identifier. It’s the kind of vague, scary statistic a con artist uses to imply a tidal wave of crime without having to provide a single shred of evidence about who these people actually are or if they’re even eligible through other means. It’s bullshit propaganda wrapped in a lab coat, and it’s being parroted by Vice President JD Vance, who claims this ghost-hunting will save taxpayers a cool $2.2 billion. Sure it will, you fucking bastards. They found the money in the same place they found the phantoms: up their own asses.
His master plan to prevent this “massive corporate fraud”? He’s urging insurers to work with brokers who… record phone calls. That’s it. That’s the big idea from the man who once hawked “miracle” pills for weight loss. We’re supposed to believe that the solution to complex systemic issues is a fucking tape recorder, ensuring customers are “real” and have “genuine discussions.” Because nothing says “transparency” and “verified eligibility” like a recorded sales pitch from an insurance broker, a profession historically known for its unimpeachable ethics. It’s a pathetic, performative gesture from a pathetic, performative man, designed to create the illusion of action while doing fuck-all to actually help anyone. He’s a clown playing a doctor playing a bureaucrat, and the only thing he’s ever successfully diagnosed is the American public’s bottomless capacity for swallowing his shit.
