The facts
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca stated that he "trusts completely" in the club and repeatedly said "when we win the appeal" in his first media conference since the club was found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules. Maresca insisted that the club's honours won since the Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008 have been "absolutely not" tainted. He cited his experience during the 2022-23 treble-winning season, knowing the effort from players and the club to achieve those targets. City strenuously deny any wrongdoing and have lodged an appeal against the verdict of an independent commission. Maresca acknowledged that the topic of the 115 charges did not come up in his discussions about succeeding Pep Guardiola. He stated that he would have accepted the City job even if he had known about the charges, expressing confidence in the club's organisation and their belief they will win the appeal. Maresca also confirmed that Erling Haaland is ready for the upcoming match against Liverpool. He mentioned that the players are relaxed and focused on their upcoming games, despite the ongoing "noise" surrounding the club.
Our take
Enzo Maresca, the newly installed human shield at Manchester City, held his first press conference and immediately demonstrated he’s either a world-class bullshitter or has suffered a recent, traumatic blow to the head. Asked about the 115 guilty verdicts hanging over the club, this prick didn’t just stick his head in the sand, he fucking tunneled through it and popped out in China.
His entire defense amounted to ‘I trust the club’ and ‘when we win the appeal,’ repeated like a brainwashed cult member trying to manifest a not-guilty verdict through sheer, cuntish repetition. The titles aren’t tainted, he says, because he saw the players run around a lot. That’s the level of analysis we’re dealing with here: effort equals innocence. By that logic, every bank robber who sprinted away from the scene is entitled to keep the cash.
The most pathetic reveal is that this clown didn’t even bother asking about the charges before taking the job. He’d have accepted it anyway, he says, because he has faith in the ‘organisation.’ That’s not managerial courage, that’s the behaviour of a desperate dickhead who finally got a big-boy job and will happily lick the boot that kicks the sporting regulations into the gutter. His confidence is based on fuck-all except a paycheck.
Meanwhile, he assures us Erling Haaland is ready for Liverpool and the players are ‘relaxed.’ Of course they’re relaxed! They’ve been operating in a financial fantasy land for over a decade, winning trophies bought with alleged rule-breaking. The ‘noise’ he dismisses is the sound of the entire competitive structure of English football screaming in protest. But sure, Enzo, you just keep trusting and repeating your little appeal mantra. It’s the perfect philosophy for a manager whose legacy, if he has one, will be written in asterisks and settled by lawyers.
