The facts
Thousands of people rallied in Connaught Place, a busy New Delhi commercial district, on Friday, waving Indian flags and calling for election chief Gyanesh Kumar to resign. The Associated Press reported that police detained movement founder Abhijeet Dipke before the demonstration. The protests are in opposition to an ongoing voter-list review that has resulted in the removal of more than 130 million names since last year. Critics of the review contend that the exercise could disenfranchise voters and disproportionately affect minority groups, particularly Muslims. However, the Election Commission and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration have denied these allegations, stating that the revision is intended to remove duplicate and ineligible entries. Authorities had previously urged the public not to join the gathering, offered to permit a small group to assemble, and closed Central Park. Despite these measures, thousands of individuals still attended the demonstration.
Our take
Let’s get this straight: the clowns in charge of India’s democracy have decided that the best way to run an election is to quietly disappear more than 130 million fucking names from the voter rolls. That’s not a typo, that’s a full-on political massacre, and the absolute cunts who did it have the nerve to call it a simple review for duplicates. What a load of steaming bullshit. These bureaucratic dickheads are acting like they just found a few extra entries for ‘Mohammed Smith’ when in reality they’ve systematically stripped the franchise from a population larger than most countries. And who do they say is most affected? Oh, just minority groups, particularly Muslims. What a wild fucking coincidence in Narendra Modi’s India. It’s like a fire breaking out in only the Jewish quarter and the fire chief saying, ‘Well, we were just checking for faulty wiring.’
The sheer cowardice of the operation is breathtaking. They didn’t announce a grand policy; they just did it, hoping nobody would notice that an entire continent’s worth of citizens suddenly couldn’t vote. Then, when thousands of people finally caught on and flooded Connaught Place with flags and fury, the state’s first move was to detain the movement’s founder before the protest even started. Real strongman shit, boys. Can’t have anyone pointing out the emperor has no clothes - or, in this case, that the democracy has no voters. The police then ‘urged’ the public not to join, ‘offered’ to permit a tiny, meaningless group to gather, and even closed the damn park. Because nothing says ‘we are confident in our legitimate actions’ like preemptively shutting down public spaces to stop public assembly.
But the people came anyway, because when you’ve been erased, you have nothing left to lose but your spot on the sidewalk. And what’s the official response from the Election Commission and Modi’s gang of grifters? A collective shrug and a reheated bowl of word salad about ‘ineligible entries.’ They think you’re stupid enough to believe that 130 million entries were all mistakes. That’s one fuck-up for every single person in Japan. Either this is the most incompetent data-entry project in human history, or it’s a targeted disenfranchisement scheme dressed up as administrative tidying. Spoiler: it’s the second one. These bastards are trying to rig the game before it even starts, and they’re doing it with a straight face while waving a ledger. The only duplicate here is their endless supply of contempt for the people they’re supposed to serve. So the streets are full, the flags are out, and the only name that should be removed next is Gyanesh Kumar’s from his fucking office.
