Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) stated on Thursday that former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is competent to stand trial on charges of crimes against humanity. This ruling clears the path for his trial, scheduled to commence on November 30. Duterte faces a potential maximum sentence of life imprisonment if convicted. The panel also found him mentally fit to understand evidence and confer with his lawyers. What a goddamn relief. The international panel of brain-checkers has decided Rodrigo Duterte is sharp enough to stand trial. He's got the 'capacity to understand the charges.' Fucking finally. It turns out the sociopath who spent years gleefully ordering police and goon squads to turn poor people into pavement art for cash and career advancement can still grasp the concept of 'you're in deep shit.' His lawyers' pathetic gambit - that the senile old fuck couldn't remember his own war crimes because his brain is Swiss cheese - has been tossed in the bin where it belongs. The court basically said his mind is perfectly capable of following along as prosecutors itemize the thousands of corpses he allegedly racked up like loyalty points. He can 'confer with his lawyers.' Presumably that means he can still whisper 'just say I forgot' into their ears, which is more cognitive function than he ever granted his victims. Let's be clear: this isn't a medical evaluation, it's a cosmic joke. The only 'cognitive decline' on display was Duterte's decaying sense of impunity. He thought playing the doddering grandpa act would let him skip a date at The Hague. Instead, he's been judged fit to sit there and comprehend, in glorious legal detail, every single allegation that he turned a nation into an abattoir for profit and political cover. So mark your calendars for November 30, when this human shit-stain is scheduled to finally have his day in a court that isn't staffed by his own pet judges. He'll be mentally present and accounted for, forced to listen. The ultimate insult for a loudmouth tyrant: being declared compos mentis just in time to be told, in the most official terms possible, that he's a monstrous, genocidal cunt.
