Gonzalez’s Campaign Spent Thousands on Disney, UAE and Zurich Trips After He Called Rival’s Donor Trips “Good Life”

Texas Rep. Vicente Gonzalez’s filings show campaign payments of $1,122.76 to Walt Disney Resorts, more than $13,000 for a 2024 UAE trip, and several hundred dollars for Zurich, Abu Dhabi and Rome expenses that line up with his own social‑media posts of family travel.

The facts

Federal campaign‑finance records show Gonzalez’s campaign paid two Disney‑Resort invoices of $561.38 each (total $1,122.76) on March 24 and May 27, 2025, coinciding with his April 26, 2025 Facebook post about a two‑day Disney World family trip. In December 2024 the campaign reported $12,810 to Emirates Airlines and $359.27 for a luxury Abu Dhabi hotel, plus $13,000+ in combined airfare and lodging for the UAE visit where Gonzalez posted photos with his wife describing an “after‑campaign break.” The 2025 Zurich trip generated a $566.67 Swiss Air charge and a $395 “Travel Expense” for La Rôtisserie, a one‑Michelin‑star restaurant, matching Instagram photos of the couple in Switzerland. Earlier filings list a $4,767.53 “spouse travel expense” for a 2019 MECEA cultural exchange trip to Morocco and a $442.41 hotel charge in Rome the week Gonzalez posted a photo meeting the Pope. Campaign manager Alex Philley told Fox News Digital that all spending is legal and tied to official duties.

Our take

Vicente Gonzalez spent a small fortune turning his campaign into a first‑class vacation service for his wife, then turned around and called out a Republican rival for the same donor‑funded indulgence. The numbers don’t lie: $1,122.76 went to Disney, over $13,000 covered a desert getaway in Abu Dhabi, and a few hundred bucks paid for a Swiss Air ticket and a Michelin‑starred dinner in Zurich. He even booked a five‑star beachfront hotel in the UAE and a Rome palace‑like resort the same weeks he posted selfies from a luxury suite. Philley’s blanket claim that every cent was legal because it was tied to official business feels about as convincing as a theme‑park mascot trying to explain tax fucking policy. Federal rules allow campaign money for spousal travel only when the spouse is performing bona‑fide official duties, not when the itinerary reads like a honeymoon brochure. Gonzalez’s own posts show no meetings, no campaign events - just a husband and wife snapping pictures in front of mosques, beaches and a Pope’s balcony. The hypocrisy is stark: he slammed Mayra Flores for allegedly using donor cash for a Disney trip, then posted his own Disney photos while his campaign footed the bill. It’s a textbook case of the pot calling the kettle black, and the kettle is now dripping with donor money on a private “after‑campaign break.” The optics are so bad they could make a Disney villain blush. The only thing more out of place than a congressman’s wife at a luxury Abu Dhabi resort is the idea that voters will overlook the double standard. In the end, Gonzalez’s defense is a flimsy costume of legalese over a very real perception problem: he’s using public‑funded travel for personal pleasure while pretending it’s all official business. That’s not just a misstep; it’s a full‑blown face‑plant on the political stage.
