Flávio Bolsonaro, the Family's Fucking Spare Part, Wants to Be President

The Brazilian senator launched his campaign by comparing himself to Pelé's son, a confession that his entire platform is being a shittier, cheaper version of a coup‑plotting father who's currently in prison.

The facts

On August 16, 2026, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, 45, launched his presidential campaign from a loudspeaker‑equipped truck on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach. He opened by saying, I know you are looking at me right now and thinking of someone… I know I look like him, but it is difficult to compare Pelé’s son to Pelé. The rally echoed his effort to inherit the right‑wing movement built by his father, ex‑President Jair Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to more than 27 years for plotting a coup after his 2022 defeat. Flávio, a lawyer elected to the Rio state legislature at 21 and a senator since 2018, defended militias in a 2007 speech, calling them a “new way of doing police work” and once awarded medals to militia members. In June, his stepmother, former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, posted videos accusing him of humiliating her, a dispute they publicly patched up in July. Meanwhile, a corruption probe into the bankrupt Banco Master has drawn Flávio into the broader scandal engulfing Brazil’s political elite.

Our take

Let’s start with the most honest thing a Bolsonaro has ever said. Standing on a fucking truck on Copacabana, this useless prick told thousands, “I know I look like him, but it is difficult to compare Pelé’s son to Pelé.” He’s right – it’s hard because Pelé’s son never built a political empire on militia medals and a coup‑plotting dad in a prison cell. This campaign feels like a product‑recall notice for a knock‑off action figure: the label reads, May Cause Severe Disappointment and National Shame. The family’s solution to a 27‑year sentence is to hand the reins to the eldest son, whose proudest legislative moment was glorifying paramilitary gangs. He called those gangs a “new way of doing police work,” which is not policy, it’s a badge of honor for war criminals. The drama doesn’t stop there – his stepmother spent a month posting videos about a phone‑call humiliation, forcing party bosses to act like kindergarten teachers to stop the public crying match. And while the Banco Master scandal looms, Flávio’s “clean heir” narrative is already rotting. The only thing his campaign promises that isn’t a copy of his father’s is a louder, more flamboyant version of the same authoritarian playbook. Brazil isn’t getting a fresh path; it’s being asked to elect a cheaper, slightly less charismatic disaster hoping the son can somehow free the father. That’s a hostage situation dressed up as democracy, and the only thing the Bolsonaro family is good at is keeping the criminal franchise afloat while the patriarch does his time. What a pathetic legacy for a pathetic man.
