The facts
Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr told reporters on Wednesday that a series of taxpayer‑funded television advertisements featuring President Donald Trump do not merit FCC review. Carr, who was appointed by Trump, compared the spots to public‑service announcements, echoing the White House’s defense that the ads are not campaign messages. The ads, funded by the Department of Homeland Security, are slated to cost about $20 million. Democratic senators Patty Murray and Chris Murphy wrote to DHS demanding the ads be stopped, calling them “corrupt and illegal.” Republican Senator Thom Tillis likened the ads to those used by former Hungarian leader Viktor Orban, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune said taxpayer dollars should not fund them. Representative Jamie Raskin warned the ads could violate the Hatch Act and amount to felony theft. One spot shows Trump speaking about a “final battle” and demolishing the deep state, while another pairs his remarks with a montage of claimed achievements set to the song “Love Me” by JMSN, who has asked the White House to remove the music.
Our take
What a colossal, slobbering load of shit. The head of the Federal Communications Commission, a man who got his job by sucking Donald Trump's dick, has officially declared that a $20 million television campaign starring Donald Trump, paid for by the Department of Homeland Security, is basically no different from a fucking Smokey Bear spot. Brendan Carr, you sycophantic prick, just performed the regulatory equivalent of looking at a flaming dumpster labeled 'TRUMP 2024' and calling it a community candlelight vigil. His entire function here is to be the human condom between the president's throbbing ego and the law, ensuring the $20 million cumshot of public money hits the airwaves without any pesky review.
Let's be specific about the 'public service' being announced here. One ad features Trump babbling about a 'final battle' and 'demolishing the deep state.' That's not a PSA, you cowardly asshole, that's a threat set to music. The other ad uses the song 'Love Me' by JMSN, who has explicitly asked the White House to stop using it. So the 'service' is forcing an artist to provide the soundtrack for a political glory reel he wants nothing to do with, funded by taxes he probably paid. This isn't governance; it's a felony-strength mix tape of narcissism and theft, with the FCC chair providing the liner notes that say 'This Is Fine.'
The beautiful part is that even other Republicans think this is bullshit. Thom Tillis compared it to Viktor Orban's state propaganda, and John Thune said taxpayer money shouldn't pay for it. When the party of bootlicking starts calling your blatant graft 'Orban-esque,' you've jumped the shark into a lake of raw sewage. Jamie Raskin says it could be a Hatch Act violation and felony theft. But none of that matters to Carr, whose job description has been whittled down to two words: 'Trump approved.' He's not a regulator; he's a concierge for corruption, holding the door open while $20 million in public funds is carried out in a suitcase labeled 'CAMPAIGN AD' and he shouts, 'No, no, that's just a helpful brochure!'
The whole fucking charade is a perfect metaphor for this administration: take a vital public institution, staff it with a loyalist cunt, and have him piss on its purpose while calling it rain. The FCC is supposed to protect the public interest, not provide alibi services for a president who sees the Treasury as his personal Super PAC. Carr's statement is the bureaucratic version of closing your eyes, sticking your fingers in your ears, and yelling 'LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR THE $20 MILLION DOLLARS BEING STOLEN.' It's a handjob so transparent, the only thing missing is the towel.
