DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin walked onto a midterm-convention stage and told Benny Johnson the quiet part like it was already booked in a courtroom.
"We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States." Then, in the same breath: they are investigating. There may be more. Family migration. Possible illegal activity getting them here in the first place. Something is going to happen. If they file, it will not be political. It will be because somebody lied.
That is the whole story so far. A Cabinet officer said we know. The paperwork is still "pending." Leading Report blasted it this morning. The clip is eating the timeline on a day America is supposed to be reading names at Ground Zero.
The allegation is not new. It has followed Rep. Ilhan Omar since her 2016 Minnesota race. The man on the 2009 Minnesota marriage license is Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen. Critics say brother. Omar says disgusting lie. She had an Islamic marriage with Ahmed Hirsi, legally married Elmi, later divorced Elmi, legally married Hirsi, later divorced him too. Elmi has been described as living in London. She became a U.S. citizen in 2000 as a minor after asylum in 1995.
Vance has already said on a podcast that he thinks she committed immigration fraud. Nancy Mace tried to subpoena the immigration file in January and called it a sibling marriage. Omar told Fox the Vance probe talk was delusional. Snopes has spent years calling the brother claim unproven. None of that is a jury. None of that is Mullin shutting up.
Marriage fraud is a real statute. Five years, $250,000, and the kind of denaturalization speech Republicans practice in the shower. Incest marriage is illegal in every state. Saying you know is easy. Producing the birth records, the I-130, and a judge is the part this town keeps skipping.
Our take. If Mullin has the file, stop doing stand-up with Benny and stamp the charging document. If he does not have the file, he just accused a sitting member of Congress of marrying her brother on a convention floor and then hid behind "we're investigating." That is not toughness. That is a tease.
The joke writes itself either way. America will spend today whispering never forget while the immigration cabinet argues on a podcast about whether a Somali Democrat used a wedding as a visa. If the brother story is real, it is fraud with a hijab and a parking pass. If it is another year of vibes, it is the same rumor with a better title. Pick one and shit or get off the pot.
