The facts
A super PAC can take unlimited money from people, companies, unions, and other political committees. The FEC says the catch is supposed to be independence: the super PAC cannot hand the cash to a candidate or coordinate the spending with the campaign.
That is the whole trick. Unlimited money, as long as you pretend you are shouting from across the street. Independent expenditures are the legal name for the carpet-bombing. Ads, mail, the whole circus, as long as nobody is caught huddling with the candidate about it.
Our take
You get one vote. The donor class gets a vote and a war chest. Equal opportunity, if you buy the premium package.
This is not a detective novel where every politician has a receipt taped to their forehead. It is worse. It is legal. They wrote it down. They built a form for it. Your guy does it. Their guy does it. The logo on the ad does not make the money smell better.
Ask who paid. Ask what they want. Then watch what the politician actually does, not what the ad said in that voice they use when they want you to cry. If that feels rude, good. Rude is how you read a disclosure. Retarded taxpayers get nothing still.
