Court Threatens Recall on Commissioner’s Solo Voter Roll Dictatorship

Supreme Court notices the Election Commission after Gyanesh Kumar allegedly rammed through list revisions over the objections of his two fellow commissioners, opening the door to the entire exercise getting yanked if records confirm the one-man show.

The facts

India's Supreme Court heard petitions on Monday, October 5, against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar concerning alleged unilateral decisions in the revision of voter lists. The pleas were prompted by an investigative report suggesting that Kumar's Election Commission of India (ECI) proceeded with changes to electoral rolls despite objections from two of the three election commissioners. The Supreme Court issued a notice to the ECI, requesting a response to these allegations. The court indicated that if records show decisions were not unanimous, it would reconsider or recall them. However, the court declined to issue an interim order to suspend Kumar, as sought by one of the petitions. Critics claim the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise has disenfranchised eligible voters, while opposition parties allege the changes benefit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The ECI maintains the process removes ineligible voters and prevents the inclusion of foreign nationals. The Supreme Court is expected to hear further arguments after reviewing the ECI's response.

Our take

Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Dickhead, just got caught trying to run the entire Election Commission like his own personal fucking fiefdom. He had two other commissioners there, presumably to provide a semblance of democratic process, but apparently their objections were just background noise for his solo voter list purge. The Supreme Court has now asked for the receipts, and if they show this wasn’t a unanimous decision, they’ve promised to tear the whole fucking thing up. That’s the sound of a one-man shitshow getting its plug pulled by the highest court in the land because this clown thought his colleagues were just decorative potted plants he could ignore while he rewrote the electoral rolls to suit himself. What a prick. The court didn’t suspend him, so this arrogant bastard gets to stay in charge while they dig through the evidence that could undo his entire legacy of unilateral bullshit. Critics say the Special Intensive Revision has already disenfranchised eligible voters, and the opposition says it conveniently helps the ruling party. The ECI’s pathetic excuse is that they’re just cleaning house of foreign nationals. Right. Because nothing says “protecting democracy” like one commissioner steamrolling over the other two to decide who gets to vote. The vanity of believing your own vote is the only one that matters on a three-person panel is the kind of ego-driven fuckery that makes a mockery of the entire institution. Now the Supreme Court is basically holding the entire revision process hostage to the paper trail, which is the legal equivalent of saying, Prove you’re not the autocratic piece of shit everyone says you are. Good luck with that, you absolute cunt. The next hearing could see this whole house of cards collapse, turning Kumar’s grand voter purge into the very electoral irregularity it was supposed to prevent. What a fucking joke. End on the strongest line without explaining it. The court’s review could turn the entire Special Intensive Revision into the very thing it claimed to fix: a list that needs serious correction after the fact. No suspension yet leaves Kumar in place until the next hearing. The commission still looks like a one-dickhead operation pretending to be a collegial body. That’s the reversal the petitions forced into the open. Imagine running a three-person body like a private fiefdom and then acting surprised when petitions force the records into daylight. The vanity here is that one commissioner’s say-so was treated as enough to rewrite electoral rolls while the other two were sidelined. Now the justices have signaled they can rip those calls back if the evidence shows the split. Critics already point to eligible voters knocked off the rolls during the exercise. The ECI keeps claiming it only targeted foreign nationals and ineligible names. Yet the internal split shows the cleaning crew was fighting over the mop while the boss used it solo anyway. The court’s notice flips the script on that power grab by promising to revisit every decision that lacked full agreement. The petitions landed after an investigative report spelled out exactly how the objections got ignored and the revisions still rolled forward. Kumar gets to keep running the process for now since the court skipped any interim suspension. This means the same guy who allegedly overruled his own colleagues stays in charge while the justices review the paperwork that could undo his work. Gyanesh Kumar treated his two fellow commissioners like background props while he alone green-lit the Special Intensive Revision changes to the voter lists. The Supreme Court now wants the internal records because any non-unanimous call can get pulled back entirely. That setup turns the Election Commission into a one-man dictatorship where the other two votes apparently counted for nothing more than decorative furniture.
