The facts
Bolivian police arrested Attorney General Roger Mariaca and 13 other individuals on Thursday, October 1, 2026, with the government alleging they were involved in protecting drug traffickers. This action occurred days after the Trump administration implemented visa restrictions against Mariaca and other senior Bolivian officials, citing corruption allegations. According to anti-drug prosecutor Miguel Gonzales, Mariaca was detained without a warrant. Interior Minister Marco Antonio Oviedo stated that Mariaca would face charges including money laundering and drug trafficking. Oviedo pointed to the 2023 release of Sebastián Marset, a suspected Uruguayan trafficker, as a key reason for the charges, noting that Mariaca was a prosecutor in Santa Cruz at the time. Oviedo further alleged that cash, amounting to 3.53 million bolivianos and $10,000, was recovered from an ambulance leaving Mariaca's home and was believed to be extortion proceeds. Mariaca had previously characterized the U.S. bribery accusations as political pressure and did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding his arrest.
Our take
Well, well, well. Look who finally got a taste of the justice he was supposed to be serving. Bolivia’s top lawman, Roger Mariaca, is now starring as the lead suspect in a plot so braindead it makes a telenovela look like a fucking documentary. This cunt and his baker’s dozen of alleged co-conspirators have been arrested for the high crime of protecting drug traffickers, which is like the fire chief getting busted for arson. The sheer, staggering lack of subtlety here is what really kills me. This isn’t some shadowy conspiracy; it’s a clown car crashing into a police station. The government’s evidence includes an ambulance - a fucking AMBULANCE - leaving Mariaca’s house packed with 3.53 million bolivianos and ten grand in cash. That’s not a bribe; that’s a goddamn parade float. You don’t need a warrant to arrest this prick, you need a hazmat team to clean up the stench of his bullshit. Interior Minister Marco Antonio Oviedo says the cash is extortion money, which is the polite way of saying Mariaca was running a toll booth for criminals. Pay up, or your drug case goes poof. How’s that for public service? But the real cherry on this shit sundae is the 2023 release of suspected Uruguayan trafficker Sebastián Marset. While Mariaca was a prosecutor in Santa Cruz, this prize suspect just waltzed out the door. It’s the prosecutorial equivalent of a security guard holding the bank vault open while whistling a happy tune. This absolute cunt had one job: put bad guys away. Instead, he apparently held the door for them and asked for a tip. And his defense against earlier U.S. bribery accusations? He whined it was all ‘political pressure.’ Oh, poor baby. Did the big bad Americans hurt your feelings by noticing you were up to your neck in dirty money? Now he’s got no comment, which is the smartest move he’s made in years. His mouth might finally be as closed as the cell door he should have been locking. The whole affair is a masterpiece of institutional failure, a system so rotten that its top cop was allegedly the head rat. They didn’t just fail to police the crime; they became the crime’s favorite customer. What a bunch of pricks.
