The facts
West Midlands Fire Service was called to the Art Quarter on Allison Street in Digbeth shortly before 00:30 BST on Thursday, September 10, 2026. The BBC said the blaze hit both floors of the two-storey building, with extensive smoke damage, no injuries, and an investigation into the cause still going.
The venue opened a fully halal food court in March. The building also has a female-only salon for women who wear headscarves. The owners posted that the space is closed and they will rebuild.
Birmingham Live reported owner Jordan Patel watched the place burn and floated an arson theory. The paper said the venue had been a target for graffiti, abuse, vandalism and online attacks, especially since the halal hall opened. That is the owner’s and the paper’s account. The fire service has not called it arson.
On X, accounts posted it as “Birmingham’s first halal food hall has been burned down.”
Our take
A food hall burned. That is the fact. Everything else is a team sport.
If it was arson, say arson when the fire service or the cops do. If it was a kitchen, a wire, a retard with a cigarette, say that. Do not let a quote-tweet write the charging document. Do not let a press officer turn a gutted building into a diversity brochure.
Britain has spent a decade pretending every fire is weather and every knife is a mystery. X has spent a decade pretending every fire is a race war. Both are cowards. Wait for the investigation. Then print the word.
