The facts
Opposition parties retained control of the Czech Senate following elections held on Saturday, marking a major blow to Prime Minister Andrej Babis and his governing coalition. The ruling coalition failed to win a single seat in the elections for the Senate, the upper house of parliament. This outcome means pro-Western opposition parties continue to hold a majority in the chamber. The election was the first electoral test for Babis since he won parliamentary elections in October 2025, returning him to power after a four-year hiatus. Final results from the two-day ballot indicated that candidates directly linked to opposition parties secured 22 of the 27 available seats in the 81-member Senate, preserving the existing opposition majority. Babis' centrist ANO (or YES) movement did not gain any additional seats, leaving them with 14 Senate lawmakers. Babis described the result as "catastrophic," acknowledging the unexpected failure to win any Senate seats. Despite the outcome, he pledged to continue with his government's agenda, which includes a plan to reform funding for public broadcasters. His euroskeptic coalition has also ceased direct military support for Ukraine and opposes EU policies on climate change. While the lower house holds primary legislative power, the Senate plays a crucial role in approving constitutional amendments and Constitutional Court judges.
Our take
Well, well, well. Look what the cat dragged in and then immediately puked back up: Andrej I’m Back, Bitches Babis has just discovered that being a billionaire media mogul and Prime Minister doesn’t mean you can buy a single fucking seat in the Senate. His entire ruling coalition got absolutely skull-fucked at the ballot box, failing to win even one. Not a single one. They got the big, fat, embarrassing zero. Babis himself called it “catastrophic,” which is the political equivalent of shitting your pants in public and then having to announce, Ladies and gentlemen, I have shat my pants. No shit, Andrej. You got wiped off the map like a stubborn skid mark on the toilet of Czech democracy. So much for his triumphant return from a four-year hiatus. He waltzed back into power in October thinking he was hot shit, and the voters just flushed him. Now the pro-Western opposition gets to keep its majority and presumably spend the next few years pointing and laughing every time Babis tries to pass anything more complicated than a lunch order. And what’s his big plan after this dick-flattening defeat? To just keep on keeping on with his pathetic little agenda. He’s still gonna try to fuck with public broadcaster funding, because controlling all the media wasn’t enough for this greedy prick. His coalition of euro-fearing twats has already stopped sending weapons to Ukraine and hates the EU’s climate plans, because nothing says “strong leadership” like siding with the planet’s fucking cancer. The Senate might not run the whole show, but it can block his dumbest, most authoritarian impulses. So here’s to you, Andrej. Enjoy your catastrophic, seatless, powerless reality. The upper house just told you to go fuck yourself with your own money. What a cunt.”
