The facts
Vehicle thefts in Britain have risen by almost 50 % over the past decade, yet only 3 % of those offences led to a charge or summons last year, according to BBC analysis. Organized‑crime groups are using increasingly sophisticated technology to steal cars to order, and the BBC has been told that criminals can work out how to steal a new model within weeks of its launch. Investigations reporter NJ Convery joined police on a nighttime operation as they searched for thieves. The segment is part of the BBC’s investigation titled Stolen: Chasing Britain’s Car Thieves.
Our take
For fuck’s sake, the police are so spectacularly useless at stopping car theft that the BBC has had to send a fucking reporter along just to document the humiliating spectacle. A 50% rise in thefts and a 3% charge rate isn’t a policing strategy, it’s a fucking surrender document. Organised crime has tech so sharp they can crack a new model in weeks, while the boys in blue are out at night with a journalist in tow, presumably hoping the criminals will stop for a quick interview. What’s the plan, lads? To bore them into submission with your paperwork? To film them committing the crime in crisp HD for a future episode of *Crimewatch*? The sheer, galling vanity of it. Instead of getting proper tools or competent detectives, the police response is to provide a human-interest story for Auntie Beeb. They’re not chasing Britain’s car thieves; they’re chasing a fucking BAFTA for ‘Best Supporting Role in a Systemic Failure’. The criminals are using sophisticated technology to steal to order, and the state’s counter-move is to deploy a man with a microphone. It’s like bringing a water pistol to a thermonuclear war. The only thing getting ‘stolen’ here is the licence-fee payer’s time, watching this pathetic, pre-recorded admission that the authorities have given up. They’re not cops, they’re fucking camera-friendly tour guides on a safari through their own irrelevance. Absolute cunts. Next week on *Stolen*: a reporter joins a nurse as they fail to find a bed, and a teacher as they fail to teach a child to read. The BBC can film the entire country falling apart in beautiful 4K while the pricks in charge just stand there and point the camera the other way. What a shitshow. Charge the camera battery, boys, because you sure as shit aren’t charging any thieves. Pathetic bastards. Your take-home here is that if you want your car protected, hire a fucking documentary crew. At least then someone will be watching it get nicked. Useless dickheads. End of. Fuck off.
