The facts
ActBlue, the Democrats’ largest campaign fundraising platform, told the House of Representatives on Monday that it is launching a new “passport verification program” as part of what its lawyers called its “ongoing investment in the security of contributions processed from donors located abroad.”
The move came days after House GOP investigators accused the platform of potentially taking in foreign donations for U.S. campaigns. House Republicans have been making that accusation for years, and ActBlue paused donations from Americans abroad in 2025.
A House report released earlier this month, first reported by Fox News Digital, found that ActBlue’s passport number check did not verify anything meaningful: the verification “only ensures that the entered passport number contains a certain number of characters, not that it is a valid U.S. passport number,” the Republicans’ report alleged. Ten top figures within the company, including executives and founders, have pleaded the Fifth Amendment rather than answer questions in sitdowns with GOP-led committees.
House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil called the new program a confession: “This decision to implement a NEW passport verification program only confirms what we’ve been saying: ActBlue failed to verify the citizenship of individuals who made donations from abroad. That’s unacceptable.” He added that the policy “should have been in place on day one” and asked “what percentage of the billions of dollars that have flowed through ActBlue came from illegal foreign sources.” The probe is co-led by Steil, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, and House Oversight Chairman James Comer.
A spokesperson for Jordan said, “This action confirms that the platform’s fraud prevention measures were not as robust as [ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones] told Congress. We will continue to demand answers.”
ActBlue denied wrongdoing. The platform told Fox News Digital, “There’s nothing to see here,” and accused Republicans of “orchestrating another political stunt,” saying the coordinated campaign “isn’t about the facts, or legislating, it’s about Republicans’ efforts to silence organizations they believe threaten their agenda.” The company also said it “accurately described” its vetting process to Congress.
Our take
ActBlue’s security was a fucking joke. For years, this multi-billion-dollar pipeline for Democratic campaigns ‘verified’ foreign donations by checking if the passport number you typed had enough characters. Not if it was real. Not if it matched a person. Just if it looked long enough. That’s not a fraud prevention system, you absolute cunts - that’s a toddler counting blocks. You could have donated as ‘Vladimir Putin, 123456789’ and their state-of-the-art vetting would have given you a green checkmark and a ‘Thank you for your support.’
Then the House GOP comes sniffing around, and ten of ActBlue’s top fuckheads - executives and founders - immediately plead the Fifth. Ten of them. Not one brave soul willing to explain the genius of their character-count technology. Just a whole leadership team suddenly struck with collective amnesia, like a gang of pickpockets who all forgot how hands work when the cops show up. They didn’t just take the Fifth; they built a fucking fortress out of it.
So what’s their brilliant response? After years of this pathetic charade, and days after a report exposes their ‘verification’ as worthless bullshit, they magically roll out a *new* passport program. Not an upgrade - a confession. They’ve been taking money with a system dumber than a CAPTCHA asking ‘Are you a robot?’ and only now, with subpoenas in the air, do they remember that maybe, just maybe, you should check if the passport is fucking real. It’s like a restaurant announcing a new ‘health program’ to stop serving rat poison after the health department finds ten dead customers in the booth.
Chairman Bryan Steil is right to call it a confession and ask what percentage of those billions was illegal foreign cash. ActBlue’s response? ‘There’s nothing to see here,’ while ten of their bosses are hiding behind the Constitution and their new ‘security investment’ is just them finally reading the fucking instructions. They’re not being silenced by a political stunt; they’re being exposed as grifting assholes who built a fundraising empire on a verification process so lazy it makes a ‘I am over 18’ checkbox look like a forensic audit. The only thing they’ve accurately described to Congress is their own cowardice.
